Blog 15- How to know if your child is on track
At some point in homeschooling, almost every parent asks the same question:
“Are we on track?”
It sounds simple.
But it’s not always easy to answer.
Because homeschooling doesn’t follow one fixed timeline.
There isn’t a single pace your child is supposed to match.
And without that external structure, it can sometimes feel like you’re guessing.
You look at what you’ve done.
You think about what’s left.
And you try to piece together whether it’s enough.
After years of homeschooling, I’ve found that the feeling of being “off track” rarely comes from a lack of learning.
It comes from a lack of visibility.
When you can’t clearly see progress, it’s hard to measure it.
So everything starts to feel uncertain.
But when you begin to look at a few simple things, the picture becomes clearer:
Is your child moving forward in their core subjects over time?
Are they gaining confidence in what they’re learning?
Are they able to engage with material at an appropriate level for their stage?
And just as important:
Can you see what they’ve completed?
Not just remember it—but actually see it.
That’s where clarity begins.
Being “on track” doesn’t mean matching another child.
It doesn’t mean following a perfect schedule.
It means your child is progressing, growing, and building the skills they need for what comes next.
And when you can clearly see that happening, the question starts to change.
Instead of asking:
“Are we on track?”
You begin to think:
“We are moving forward.”
And that’s what matters most.
